2013: Wellness Center Pool Resurfacing & Surveillance System

“We are fortunate to have community support plus the generous support from the Don and Julie Holden Foundation to enable us to further invest in the safety of our swimmers,” said Dawn Bourgeois, Director of the Wellness Center. “After the completion of the resurfacing project our pools will be like new again, with the additional safety feature of the monitoring system that very few pool facilities like ours can afford to have.”

In December 2013, work was completed on both the indoor Olympic-size fitness pool and the heated therapy pool. Renovations include resurfacing of the pools, and the installation of an advanced computer-aided monitoring system in the fitness pool. The system detects if a swimmer is in trouble or motionless and alerts CPR-trained staff, who are always on duty.

“Don Holden was an advocate personally of physical fitness and safety,” said Travis Davis, President of the Don and Julie Holden Foundation. “Don and Julie would be proud of the Wellness Center’s pool renovation and new surveillance system. This project is another example of how Hill Country Memorial continues to deliver state-of-the-art facilities and services for the benefit of citizens of Gillespie County. The Holden Foundation is proud to support these improvements.”

The Wellness Center offers individual and group swim lessons, water aerobics, lap swimming, water walking, and recreational swimming. The Center hosts a swim team for children and an adult swim program. The therapy pool is used for arthritis therapy, whirlpool therapy, and relaxation. The pools are also popular for private birthday and graduation parties.
